Those defenses! Including last years, couldn't stop a nose bleed. let Tebow walk 98 yards on them, 24 unanswered points in 2 AFC Champ games.

You are delusional.... We stopped very few. look at the points allowed.

Report: Tannenbaum is out

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum will not be back with the Jets next season according to a report from CBSSports.com.

Citing a league source, the report says Tannenbaum will be fired as soon as Monday and the Jets will enlist an executive search firm for a replacement.

A Jets spokesperson declined to comment on the report. Coach Rex Ryan is scheduled to conduct a press conference at 4:45 p.m. Monday, and although the general manager usually speaks, Tannenbaum is not on the team’s media itinerary.

Tannenbaum was widely speculated to get the ax this season, after a 6-10 season that saw a rotating band of wide receivers. The team had already put out feelers on replacements.

When Santonio Holmes went out early on with a Lisfranc injury, there didn’t appear to be a real backup plan, and quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled in the passing game.

The decision to bring in backup quarterback Tim Tebow also was a big-risk, low-reward move that did not work. Tebow was a distraction, didn’t challenge Sanchez on the field and didn’t provide a spark on offense in other roles.

The decision to extend Sanchez’s contract in the offseason means the team owes him $8.2 million next year no matter where he plays.

Tannenbaum, an attorney by trade, could be reassigned within the Jets organization for his cap skills. The Jets have had trouble with personnel decisions, however. In 2008, the team drafted Vernon Gholston with the sixth pick in the first round. The OLB/DE never recorded a sack and has been out of the NFL for nearly two seasons.

Rich Cimini contributed to this report.

Doesn't say, but the fact that he is getting outside help means that he might be cutting the rope

Can't wait for 4:45.

The top line says fired, which would mean no re-assignment. However later in article is brings up the option of re-assignment.

"not be back with the Jets" implies fired outright.

Lets hope.

This story has been written 10 times already.

We all know he's out as GM but this story still says he may be back.

Nothing new!

Semantics may be important.

The article says that Tannenbaum "will be" fired, but "could be" reassigned. The first states something that is going to happen while the second is speculating on a possibility.

Thus, Tannenbaum is out, but it is up in the air if he is gone from the franchise.

Tannenbaum should be fired and not be reassigned, IMO.

But as to Rex, I believe the new GM should get full authority and then it be up to him to decide what to do with Rex.

I agree ... we should string him along until the new GM makes a decision. Kinda like how Rex strung Tebow along all season. We can keep, telling him we can use him, he is a really good football guy, and then supplant him with someone that is ... You know ... Actually qualified for the job.

They treated that kid like crap. Rex must of had some personal problem with Tebow if you ask me.

@CBSJets: #Jets have hired Jed Hughes of Korn/Ferry to lead their search for new GM.

Mike is signed to a multi-year contract with one or more years remaining. By offering him a reassignment, you are forcing him to either forfeit the remaining years on the contract or accept a demotion.

Most executives in that circle would not accept the demotion as it will tarnish their record. So the expectation is that Tanny is a gonner and his contract is voided as he turned down a job offer

Except I don't think Tanny turns it down.

Do you think he gets a GM job somewhere else?

Except thats not how it works, or every Head Coach or GM could be de facto fired cost-free by being "reassigned" to clean toilets.
