Overrated. Most of his picks come on horribly thrown balls by horrible quarterbacks. Dont get me wrong, very good player but not the greek god people make him out to be. Plus, always a piss poor attitude about being a Jet and about being a team player

who wins games by themselves? thats silly. there are 40+ guys active each gameday, offense, defense, special teams. how can ONE guy be so good that he can win a game by himself? even if we're talking about adrian peterson rushing for 300 yards, without the offensive line he wouldn't be able to do it. if brady throws 5 TDs you have to give the receivers, the o-line credit, maybe the defense as well for not allowing more points.

revis takes out every #1 receiver, each week. that's usually a bunch of first downs, 100-150 yards and maybe a TD per game. on top of that you got the bigplays he makes, the turnovers he creates. plus he forces the ball to a different area where we can expect the ball to be thrown at (our #2 corner). so it makes gameplanning a lot more easier, it creates more turnovers since we know that they're throwing the ball to cromartie.

watch the lions tape. revis held CJ to what, 1 catch for 8 yards? just because he doesn't throw touchdown passes doesn't mean he doesn't contribute in a big way. whether he prevents his guy from catching balls and scoring touchdowns or whether our QB is throwing touchdown passes, there's no difference. sanchez throwing a TD doesn't count more points than revis shutting down a guy that usually scores all the time or puts up other monster numbers

QBs, and Pass Rushers win games by themselves. Have you not been paying attention? 40+ guys x 16mil= 640mil+. That's over the cap. Tell Revis it takes 40+ guys to win games. You know what he knows, but he doesn't care, and he doesn't care where he plays he just wants to get paid.

Likely Revis trade timing? The week before the draft

Indeed, the Jets are shopping cornerback Darrelle Revis. Which means that owner Woody Johnson has decided not to pay him.

Which means that, if the deal is right, Revis will be traded.

So when will it happen? The current thinking is that a deal would go down, if at all, within a week or so before the draft. This would give teams a chance to exhaust opportunities in free agency before deciding to make a play for Revis. It also would give Revis a chance to show that he can run again, seven months removed from his torn ACL.

Trading Revis also would ensure that the Jets won’t have to see him march out the door next March and sign with a rival team. Gary Myers of the New York Daily News recently mentioned the Patriots as a possibility. A source with knowledge of the situation believes that the Jets also would be concerned about Revis signing with the Giants, Dolphins, or Bills.

Either way, the realistic options for the Jets and Revis is trade him or sign him to a new deal.

Revis staying for 2013 is the least likely option, since he then would be able to leave unfettered by the franchise tag.

While the Jets brass consistently denies the team is shopping Revis, one source told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News it's only a matter of time before a trade happens.

"He's gone," the source said. "This is happening. They're moving him. They can't keep him. They're rebuilding. They're starting fresh."

According to the report published early Wednesday, two or three teams are prepared to make offers for Revis after the league trading period begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 12. The San Francisco 49ers are one of them, as widely reported in recent days. But Mehta's story says the team the 49ers beat in last season's NFC Championship Game -- the Atlanta Falcons -- might emerge as a possible trade partner too.

The Falcons got $15.9 million under the cap last week by cutting running back Michael Turner, defensive end John Abraham and cornerback Dunta Robinson. It was assumed at the time that the team clipped Robinson in order to bring back cornerback Brent Grimes.

Revis could be another way to go. The price would be high, as the Jets will seek multiple high draft picks, but general manager Thomas Dimitroff hasn't shied away from making blockbuster deals, as he did to draft wide receiver Julio Jones in 2011.

Revis, 27, is entering the final year of his Jets contract. Coming off a serious injury to his anterior cruciate ligament that caused him to miss most of the season, Revis is still considered the NFL's best cornerback, and would command a hefty salary (between $12 million and $16 million per season) in any long-term deal. That kind of money is an issue for any team trading for him, including the Falcons.

The Daily News cites multiple sources in saying that Jets owner Woody Johnson was the one behind the team's decision to deal its best player and rebuild after a 6-10 season.

He may well be traded at the draft but not because teams can see him run. First he will probably be running a 4.8 in April, and seeing a corner run in a straight line is not going to make anyone sleep better. Revis said he plans to be back in time for training camp, when he is ready to play is when he will be traded or the jets will get pennies on the dollar.

Two or three “legitimate buyers” are prepared to make a trade for perennial Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis when free agency and the trading period begin on March 12, the Daily News has learned.

The NFC champion 49ers, who will have 12 tradeable picks in next month’s draft and a glaring need for a top cornerback, are interested in trading for Revis sooner rather than later, according to sources. The Falcons, who lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, are also considered a team that could emerge as a player in the Revis sweepstakes.

By acting now, new GM John Idzik could jolt the NFL landscape in the coming days and reshape the future of the wayward franchise before an already select market for Revis shrinks.

But it appears to be only a matter of time before the Jets part ways with their most valuable asset.

“He’s gone,” a source familiar with the situation said Tuesday. “This is happening. They’re moving him. They can’t keep him. They’re rebuilding. They’re starting fresh.”

The timetable for trading one of the best players in franchise history is not set, but a lack of urgency on Idzik’s part could backfire on the Jets — some, if not all, of the serious suitors willing to take the risk now may fill their cornerback needs via free agency.

Sources told The News that a few shoppers for the cornerback have already made it clear that they are willing to dole out draft choices and set the parameters for a long-term deal with the Revis camp to get arguably the best defensive player in the NFL.

According to sources, owner Woody Johnson has told the Jets’ brain trust that it should move on from Revis, who is a little more than four months removed from season-ending knee surgery and is expected to command a new multi-year deal ranging anywhere from $12 million to $16 million per season.

One source said that Johnson never had any intention of giving Revis a long-term deal after his acrimonious 36-day holdout resulted in a “Band-Aid” deal — four years for $46 million — before the 2010 season.

However, sources told The News they believe Revis’ maximum trade value would not be reached just before the April 25 draft; they think the window opens Tuesday when teams begin signing free agents. There simply aren’t enough legitimate buyers comfortable with giving up enough draft choice compensation for a player coming off an ACL injury.

The biggest obstacle is Idzik’s reluctance to pull the trigger on a trade until closer to the draft next month — or even later this summer — to allow Revis more time to prove he is healthy and to maximize his trade value, according to sources.

Sean Smith, Aqib Talib, Brent Grimes, Chris Houston and Keenan Lewis are some of the top unrestricted free agent cornerbacks. The Buccaneers, Eagles, Chiefs and Lions are teams in need of a top corner.

However, the market for Revis, who is due a $1 million roster bonus a few days after the start of the new league year on March 12, is relatively small, given the unusual circumstances.

If the Jets wait until closer to the draft to trade Revis, they may not be able to move him due to the dearth of teams that have the resources to make it happen.

Idzik won’t be able to begin the rebuilding process through the draft until 2014 if he deals Revis this summer.

Sources familiar with the situation were adamant that the serious market for Revis would shrink by late summer, a nightmarish scenario for the Jets, who could end up being stuck with Revis during a rebuilding season.

The Jets’ parting gifts for letting Revis walk as an unrestricted free agent (he can’t be given the franchise tag per terms of his contract) after the 2013 season are 1) a likely third-round compensatory pick in the 2014 draft and 2) a $9 million cap hit in 2014 due to the current structure of his contract that includes three voidable years.

The Jets don’t have time on their side.

“I’d be shocked if Revis plays for the Jets this year,” a person familiar with the situation said. “If he plays for the Jets this year, (Idzik’s) going to be fired in three years, because he will have messed it up.”

Revis appears to open to relocating, too. He told “Real Rob Report,” an Internet show, this week that it would be “awesome” to play for the 49ers and that Idzik “is trying to clean house to get some great players in here” because “it’s a rebuilding mode for us to get the right pieces to the puzzle.”

“Revis Island will be back on the field soon,” the shutdown cornerback said. “I don’t know. We’ll see where the future leads to... if I’ll be back with the Jets or not. It really doesn’t matter. I just want to play football.”

It’s looking more and more like it won’t be with the Jets.

I guess that will come out in the wash. If the Jets do not get multiple picks that include a first round pick then you will be correct. I do agree that the Jets should not be in a rush to trade him-but they DO need to trade him. I have no problem with them waiting until August to trade him if it brings back a better package. It will also ensure that the team gets draft picks for 2014.
