This is not an Iowa fan site, and I don't excpect anyone to know who Chris Street is. He was my first childhood sports hero, and is what being proud of being an Iowan and and Iowa Hawkeye is all about. If one person watches this that wasn't aware of who he was, it's well worth posting.

I was at the Duke-Iowa game back then and saw his last game. I remember thinking what a great player he was and then found out soon thereafter that he had died. Very sad memories.

The basketball program just held a big ceremony this past saturday on the 20th anniversary of his death. They pulled out a win against Wisconsin in one of the greatest sporting event atmospheres I've ever been involved. It was an awesome night. The team wanted to where Street on the back of each player's jersey, but the NCAA denied the request.

I was in third grade when it all happened, but remember it like it was yesterday. The Duke game was a huge deal for the Hawks, as Duke had bounced Iowa in the 2nd round of the tourney the previous 2 years. The game after though, the furious come back against Michigan State, I'll never forget that.
