what gives?

Nothing.
Flacco is elite. Time for everyone to get over it. And Kaepernick is ascending. Was Brady elite when he won his first SB? Was Rodgers? Hindsight will tell. |

Flacco was 21 of 36 for 240 yards with 3 TD's and 0 interceptions
not sure what the QB rating is but stats are above average in the NFL |

No he's not. He had, what, 18 TD passes this year? Elite my rear end. When a QB is put in favorable situations in the playoffs, he can succeed. Just ask Sanchez

He put the ball up high for Boldin a few times and a borderline HoF WR made some great plays. There was also zero pass rush. Flacco is good, borderline top 10, but let's not overrreact

You don't have to be elite. You just have to be able to score and not turn the ball over. Take away marks turnovers and its a different outcome.

Flaco is elite. He was a dropped pass from being in 2 consecutive Super Bowls.

Joe Flacco is good and still getting better. He's not elite. Neither is Eli Manning. Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers are elite. Those guys sling it around and put up lopsided numbers consistently.

Exactly. The regular season is a better barometer, bigger sample size. Flacco is similar to Eli, good regular season QB, has played well in some big games when the rest of his team also played well.

Flacco and Kap are playing like elite QBs.
The bottom line is that the QB has to play well. No team is going to win a championship with awful QB play. |

If anything, this just shows that you can win with a pretty good QB, who has some key pieces around him. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Ray Rice are studs in key spots. I mean, Ray Rice consistently makes chicken salad out of chicken ****. That OL beats people up as well. Boldin is a tough mother ****er who will impose his will on you and Smith is a big play waiting to happen.

Joe Flacco just beat Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Of those three, who would you say is elite? As important as the QB is, it's still a team game. The point is, you don't need an "elite" QB to win it all. Eli Manning won it last year and Joe Flacco may win it this year. Eli Manning couldn't even get his team into the ****ing playoffs this year and has three one-and-dones on his record.

The QB's are critical, obviously, but tonight's loss for the Patriots is as much on their feeble WR's as it is on their lousy D. SAR I |

As a QB, you don't have to apologize for playing well when u have a good team surrounding you. But when people go overboard about your performance, the context needs to be pointed out |

OP is right, this year is a reminder that there are many ways to build a Super Bowl team. It's great to have one of the top 5 QBs, that makes it a lot easier, but it's no guarantee.
And if you don't have one of those QBs you still can build a Super Bowl team. |
