RT Clabo has been released!

WOw! here is a great oportunity for the Jets to get a solid RT. Apparently the falcons let him go because they are ready to sign Matt Ryan to a monster extension. Thoughts?

Some of these teams are going to regret having to toss away good players to pay the QB's monster money just because some other QB got paid. I still think we are in bargain hunting mode and won't pay top dollar for higher profile guys.

Strange move as it only saves around 1.4 million this year, and he only makes 4.5 million per year. That doesnt seem bad for a pro bowl caliber RT.

Agreed. But only strange if they don't have a plan at RT. Maybe they've got a developing guy ready to slide into the spot.

Would be a huge upgrade at RT. Pair him with Warmack and we will have a fine OL

Most def...but I can see what Beerfish is saying. It looks like Idzik is going to wait it out for the draft. But how much doyou think it would take to sign him? Maybe a 3 year 15 mill?

RT Clabo has been released!

Would love to see us pick him up. Slide Howard to guard and draft Warmack. All of a sudden we have a dominant OL again.

There are lots of other teams interested, so he'll get a good deal. If we want him we'll have to pay for him.

Ryan will now have lost his C and RT from last year's O line ... wonder if his new contract can pass protect?

And the pats signed his backup swing tackle. Arizona and SD have to be players. In Arizona Levi Brown will be coming back to mind the Left side but they need somebody on the right in the worse way. SD needs both sides

Slauson was a guard mostly...but I see your point.

I think Arizona really wants to move Brown to the right side and get a LT.

We have 12 million in cap room. 6 million to sign our two 1st round picks and the rest of the young guns, that leaves us 6 mil for pickups like this. Plus keep in mind we're cutting tebow which saves at least another mil.

This is exactly why we've been bargain hunting so far, to save for when a good player becomes available at a position of dire import. Idzik needs to be be all over this, lest I wonder if Woody really is a cheapskate.

There is a little more to it than that.

Start: $13 million- Reported cap room for the Jets
Less: $4 million- Loss of cap space in a trade of Revis due to acceleration of bonuses paid
Less: $480,000- Replacement of Revis on roster by 52nd highest cap player
Less: $5.6 million- Estimated Year One Rookie Pool Allocation for Jets 7 draft picks
Add: $1.92 million- Rookie displacement of players 48-51 in the current salary cap ($480,000 x 4)
Add: $1.215 million- Removing the base salaries from the rookie pool for players who do not displace a current top 51 contract ($405,000 x 3)
Less: $960,000- For players 52 and 53 who will now count against the cap once the season begins
Less: $816,000- Maintaining an 8 player Practice Squad for the season (8 x 17 x $6,000)
Finish: $4.279 million- This is the Jets effective cap space for the season.

For the "media morons" the cutting of Clabo is truly the definition of "salary
cap hell". A team having to let go a starter because they don't have
enough cap room to even sign their upcoming draft class.

Damn that salary cap! What are they supposed to do to get out of or around the hole Tanny has left the team in?

Is this assuming the entire roster is full? meaning is this what's left for Free Agents? of do they need the $4.2mm to fill multiple places on the team?
