There is an article on here from someone who traveled to India and photographed what he saw goes on in the Ganges River in India.
Essentially the same river where people bathe and get drinking water is also the same river where they perform cremations. Some seriously WTF stuff in here.

Been there once...Never again...The filth & stench was overwhelming. I actually turned down a promotion, because it would have entailed frequent visits to India - What a hell hole!!!

I have turned down multiple trips there for work, even before seeing this.

There is a long list of immunizations you have to get before you go.
Also you wouldn't be allowed to really leave your hotel after hours either, which is pretty much under police protection, 24/7.
