Happy Thanksgiving Jets fans. You have a lot to be thankful for in 2008, with Brett Favre now leading the charge at quarterback and nose tackle Kris Jenkins single-handedly dominating offensive lines with his iron strength. Before the season began, I certainly didn’t have the Jets pegged at 8-3 and first place in the AFC East. There’s still a lot of football left, but the ride for this team may just be beginning.
For the Jets, linebacker David Harris (groin) and Eric Smith (head) practiced for the second consective day. Harris has not played since the Oct. 26 win against the Chiefs, when he injured his groin. After claiming the starting role at inside linebacker in Week Eight as a rookie last season, Harris proceeded to record 34 total tackles over his first two starts. However this season he has hit a sophomore slump, recording just 46 tackles and 0.5 sack.
As for the Broncos, rookie wide receiver Eddie Royal (toe) returned to practice but remained limited in drills. With Brandon Marshall likely to draw most of the coverage from cornerback Darrelle Revis, Royal’s presence could create a mismatch for both Ty Law and Dwight Lowery. The Jets’ passing defense has been a significant weakness through the season’s first 11 games, as the Jets are allowing an average of 239 passing yards per game (26th in NFL).
