FLORHAM PARK, NJ – The Jets came a little closer to securing all of their rookie draft class today by signing QB Geno Smith several sources confirm.

Reports this morning say Smith signed a 4 year $5MM deal.

Smith is represented by Jay Z’s new sports agency Roc Nation Sports. His contract surely isn’t what he thought he’d get, as many had originally projected him as a high first round pick. After a surprising fall, the Jets scooped him up early in the second round with the 39th pick.

The team starts training camp in Cortland NY this Thursday and rookies are slated to report to Florham Park today. That being said, the team still has their two first round picks, CB Dee Milliner and DT Sheldon Richardson unsigned. With the new collective bargaining agreement in place, rookie contracts are pretty straight forward so expect Milliner and Richardson to have deals signed soon.

Smith will be competing with veteran QB Mark Sanchez this camp as Head Coach Rex Ryan stated this spring that the starting job is wide open for the taking. QB’s Greg McElroy and Matt Simms are also on the roster this camp.
