NEW YORK, NY – For the third year in a row, the Jets selected a defensive lineman in the first round, taking Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson with the 13th overall selection in Thursday’s Draft.

The Jets brass surprised many with the pick of Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson at #13.

The Jets ended up taking Richardson with the pick they received from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. For better or worse, the two players will be linked for the foreseeable future.

Richardson broke onto the scene in 2012 with the Tigers, earning a second team All-SEC selection. The defensive tackle led the entire SEC in tackles with 75 along with 4.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss.

Richardson will now be paired with 2011 and 2012 first round selections Muhammad Wilkerson and Quinton Coples to form one of the youngest and most promising defensive line trios in the league.

Too bad the offense, which ranked 30th a year ago, remains a huge problem.
