FLORHAM PARK, NJ- Fan favorite and the Rudy-sized Danny Woodhead was cut by the Jets today. Woodhead, an undrafted free agent in 2008 from Chadron State, played receiver and running back.

With a roster spot open the Jets re-signed wide receiver David Clowney, who was let go by the team during the final trimming for the 53-man roster. His re-signing comes just days after special team coach, Mike Westoff, said that if it were up to him, he would’ve cut Clowney two years ago.

It could be that Clowney was only offered the spot because Laveranues Coles rejected a signing. Rex Ryan has said he is interested in re-signing the veteran wide out, making it a fourth attempt at the Coles-Jets relationship. Coles has hinted at retirement.

In other news, the Jets–yet again–brought in free agent OLB Adalius Thomas to workout for the team. And yet again, he left the facility without a deal. The Jets and Thomas, 33, have been flirting more than a high school study session even since he parted ways in an ugly fashion with the Patriots this past off-season.

Thomas and Ryan have a long history dating back to their time together with the Baltimore Ravens, where Thomas enjoyed the brunt of his success. It seemed likely that Thomas would sign with the Jets after the Calvin Pace injury in the August 27th pre-season game against the Redskins. However the Jets did not want to guarantee Thomas’ veteran salary if Pace’s injury leans towards the shorter side of the 4-6 week prognosis.

If Thomas was brought in again and left without a contract again, why bring him in? ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini brought up an interesting point. The Jets are playing the arch-rivaled New England Patriots next week. The Patriots are Thomas’ former team. Thomas and Ryan have a strong history together. Could it be that he was brought in to offer intel about his former team to his old boss?

With the way his relationship ended with the Patriots and how badly the Jets will look to rebound on a short week of practice, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ryan asked the ex-Patriot to help with the preparation.
