Why he was available at all
Camper was among the 25 players the Jets waived on Sunday on the way to their initial roster, two days after picking up a head and neck injury in the preseason finale against the Giants. The club waived him outright rather than waived-injured, which exposed him to all 31 other teams but also signaled that it did not expect him to fail a physical. Nobody claimed him. At 1 p.m. ET he became a free agent, and by 6:15 p.m. ET he was back on the Jets roster in a different capacity.
