Hackenberg: “I’m confident I can play at this level”

Florham Park, NJ – The writing is on the wall for the 2017 New York Jets. Management and front office officials are fully invested in the unofficial tank. The release of veteran linebacker David Harris and dismissal of wide receiver Eric Decker is the latest evidence to support the claim. If you were not a believer…

Hackenberg Year 2: Understanding is key

As the mass exodus of thirty-year-old athletes continues for the New York Jets, there is little to look forward to heading into the 2017 campaign. With little to no talent on the offensive side of the ball, whoever the Jets name the starter at QB has one thing on their mind: survive. In his…

The semantics of tanking

After the Jets decision to cut David Harris and announcement that they will either trade or release Eric Decker the entire NFL world collectively screamed, “TANK! THE JETS ARE TANKING!” As I stated yesterday, it’s really impossible to successfully argue that the Jets aren’t tanking but since Mike Maccagnan has to try his only play…

Three observations: OTAs day seven

Florham Park, NJ – The news of the day is obviously about the Jets cutting David Harris, after a full practice where the veteran linebacker took his usual first-team reps, but I’ll have more on that later tonight. Today marked the first day of the final week of voluntary OTAs, and the last day for media…

Three observations: OTA’s day one

Florham Park, NJ – The football calendar has officially turned to 2017. We’re still months away from the start of the actual season but today was the first day of offseason training activities also known as OTAs. As Todd Bowles says “they’re just out there in shorts and no pads” so don’t expect any in-depth breakdowns…

Jets end draft with lots of trades and lots of players

PHILADELPHIA – Jets GM Mike Maccagnan sat put for his first three picks, then he put on his trading hat. Maccagnan traded down four different times in this draft, the most ever in Jets franchise history. The Jets started this draft with seven picks and left with nine players and the Cowboys fifth-round pick in…

Jets draft Alabama WR ArDarius Stewart in 3rd

FLORHAM PARK, NJ – The Jets streak of drafting safeties stopped at two, but they extended the streak of SEC players to three with the selection of Alabama receiver ArDarius Stewart. After trading down from the 70th overall pick to the 79th pick, and picking up an extra fifth-round pick in the process, the Jets…

GASE HINTS AT CHANGES TO THE OL. At 0-3 on the sea GASE HINTS AT CHANGES TO THE OL. At 0-3 on the season, nothing has gone right for the Jets this year. Losing their starting quarterback to mono has grabbed most of the attention but even when Sam Darnold returns there will still be a glaring problem making his life harder. That problem is this offensive line has been a disaster. On defense the Jets have some issues at cornerback and obviously miss the presence of C.J. Mosley, but the defense has mostly help up. Losing Quincy Enunwa and dealing with Chris Herndon’s suspension (he will be available to return after the Eagles game) has left the backup quarterbacks with Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder and Braxton Berrios as the receiving options. But by far the biggest problem has been the play of the offensive line. Read more of Chris Nimbley’s article on www.jetsinsider.com Photo by @manishgosalia #nyjets #newyorkjets
