The New York Jets have made the necessary moves to trim their roster down from 90 to 53 players. They released some surprising names (Frankie Luvu, Tre McBride, Xavier Cooper and Clive Walford) and they will surely look to add Luvu to the practice squad if he clears waivers and don’t be surprised to see McBride again. Including the players that they released the Jets also have Rashard Robinson, ArDarius Stewart and Kevin Pierre-Louis are all placed on the Reserve/Suspended and placed Rontez Miles on the Reserve/PUP list.

Teams had to make the move down to 53 players by 4 pm yesterday and today they will start being awarded players they won waiver wire claims on after they were cut by their former teams. So some of these players that made the initial 53-man roster still aren’t safe (we’ve put the names of the most likely players left to still be release in bold) and they’ll be able to start building their 10-man practice squad after all the waiver wire claims have been announced.

The Jets kept four running backs, will they stay at four all season? Or will they eventually put McGuire on IR? McGuire’s name is in bold, but he won’t be cute. We put his name in bold in case he gets put on IR at some point. If McGuire doesn’t get put on IR then the Jets could look to try and sneak Cannon on their practice squad.

The Jets released rookie fullback Dimitri Flowers and decided to keep Lawrence Thomas for now, but in today’s NFL you have to wonder if they’d be better off with no fullback so they could use the roster spot elsewhere.

Charone Peake made the roster and he made it over McBride because of special teams, but he shouldn’t feel too comfort because if the Jets need to clear up a roster spot he’ll be one of the first names brought up.

With Rontez Miles placed on PUP the Jets still kept five safeties. J.J. Wilcox staying is the surprise, but he’ll likely be the one to go when Miles returns or if the Jets decide they need to add another linebacker before keeping five safeties. The Jets are extremely light at linebacker, only six overall (three inside and three outside). That will change, the Jets will surely be looking to bring in outside help, especially at outside linebacker as they could survive with three inside linebackers until Pierre-Louis returns.

Here’s the roster as of now, we will of course keep you updated with waiver wire moves and practice squad announcements later today.
