A week that produced the Jets’ highest point total of the season and no win, a top receiver in concussion protocol, two more players to injured reserve and a head coach fielding questions about his own future. Four days from the trade deadline, here is what actually happened.

The Jets lost 38–33 to the Raiders to fall to 2–6, put T’Vondre Sweat and Max Mitchell on injured reserve, and saw Garrett Wilson enter concussion protocol. Breece Hall returned to full practice. Kansas City is next, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

What happened against the Raiders?

The Jets scored on their first six possessions, posted a season-high 33 points and lost anyway, 38–33 at MetLife Stadium. Geno Smith went 22-of-30 for 290 yards and two touchdowns, Braelon Allen ran for a career-high 147 yards and Adonai Mitchell had the best game of his career — the first Jets pair to each clear 140 yards in a game since 2013. Six different Jets have now posted a 100-yard game this season, the most since 2010, and Allen has rushed for 504 yards since Week 4, second in the NFL over that span. We broke down what decided it in our Week 8 Raiders recap.

How serious is Garrett Wilson’s concussion?

The Jets have not said, beyond calling him day-to-day. Wilson caught a 15-yard pass on the second-to-last play against Las Vegas and took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn that drew an unnecessary roughness penalty. He felt the effects Monday, entered protocol, and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. Glenn grouped him with defensive lineman Harrison Phillips as day-to-day and offered no timeline. The club’s own announcement is here: the Jets’ statement on Wilson’s concussion protocol.

Who went on injured reserve?

Two starters-in-rotation, in two separate moves. T’Vondre Sweat went to injured reserve with a knee injury, which we covered in Sweat’s move to injured reserve. Tackle Max Mitchell followed him there on November 3, and the Jets signed tackle Blake Freeland the same day. The running list of designations sits on our Jets injury report hub.

Is Breece Hall back?

Close to it. Hall practiced in full on Thursday for the first time since the quad injury and told reporters he is ready to play Sunday. That arrives in the same week his name kept surfacing in deadline chatter — we went through what was actually reported in our look at the Breece Hall trade rumors. Nothing has been confirmed by the team or the league.

What did Aaron Glenn say about his job?

That he is not worried about it. Glenn addressed his standing directly this week at 2–6, and also said of the Chiefs, “We know exactly who this team is; we know exactly what they’re about.” The full exchange is in Glenn’s comments on his job security.

What else moved on the roster?

The Jets designated safety VJ Payne to return to practice from reserve/injured. Payne is listed with a knee injury and carries the asterisk for designated return on the official report, and he was a full participant both Wednesday and Thursday. Wide receiver Joseph Manjack IV signed to the practice squad. Away from the field, the Betty Wold Johnson Foundation committed an additional $500,000 to expand girls flag football, and the ECAC women’s flag football league nearly doubled in size for its second season with Jets support.

What to watch next week

Two dates. Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET the Jets are at Arrowhead against a 5–2 Chiefs team that has lost two in a row, both on the road — our Week 9 preview of Jets at Chiefs has the matchups and the injury report. Then Tuesday, November 10 at 4:00 p.m. ET, the trade deadline closes. With the Jets at 2–6 and two of their best offensive players in rumor cycles, that is the week’s real deadline. Everything else is on the Jets analysis hub.
