Florham Park, NY — The Jets officially announced the signing of wide receiver David Nelson on Wednesday, releasing Ben Obomanu from the active roster.

The Obomanu for Nelson swap comes after Obomabu had more penalties (three) than catches (one) in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Reports surfaced on Tuesday that Santonio Holmes' hamstring injury may be worse than expected.

Still, the Jets will be incredibly thin at wide receiver heading into Monday’s showdown with the Atlanta Falcons, as Santonio Holmes (hamstring) and Stephen Hill (concussion) are both in question.

Multiple reports surfaced on Tuesday that Holmes’ injury is worse than originally anticipated and that the Jets are expecting their star wide receiver to miss this week’s game and possibly others.

That leaves Jeremy Kerley and Clyde Gates as Geno Smith’s top two targets against the Falcons, along with rookie Ryan Spadola and the newly signed Nelson.

Nelson was cut by the Cleveland Browns at the Aug. 31 deadline and last played with the Buffalo Bills from 2010 to 2012, amassing 94 career catches for 1,042 yards and eight touchdowns.

In other roster news, the Jets signed linebacker Troy Davis back to the practice squad, releasing running back Kareem Huggins.

The Jets also noted that although running back Mike Goodson’s suspension was lifted on Monday he is currently listed as an exemption and is not currently on the active roster. If (and when) the Jets active him they must release another player.
